Natural Rubber: A Renewable Resource

Natural rubber is derived from the sap of the rubber tree, a renewable resource. Rubber trees can be tapped for latex production over a period of years before they are replaced, making it a sustainable source of raw material. Additionally, rubber trees have a significant capacity to absorb carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Furthermore, sustainable rubber production practices, such as responsible land management and conservation efforts, can coexist with rubber cultivation, ensuring the preservation of natural habitats and supporting local ecosystems.

What About Rubber Bands ?

Natural rubber is biodegradable, making it more environmentally friendly than plastic. By using and reusing rubber bands in packaging, warehousing, bundling or securing items, we can reduce our reliance on plastic and its associated environmental impact.

The higher the percentage of pure latex rubber in the rubber compound, the faster it breaks down upon disposal. Synthetic rubber bands (such as polyisoprene or neoprene) are less biodegradable than natural rubber bands. And yet, it takes significantly less time to break down on landfills than plastic which can take several decades or even hundreds of years to fully decompose.
